Each office is organised and managed by a local community-based management committee. A typical committee consists of representatives from the following: Credit Union, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Community Welfare Service, Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, Centre for the Unemployed, Citizen's Information Service, Local Authority, and a variety of Local Community Groups. The role of this committee is to ensure that the service is responding to the needs of the local community while at the same time is linked into the national structure. The committees are constituted as limited companies and many of them have attained charitable status.
These committees support and facilitate the work of the local offices at regional level. At present the country is divided into 8 regions.
The role of this committee is to formulate policy and make recommendations to the Department of Social & Family Affairs, at national level. Among the members are representatives from the Department, Regional Committees, Money Advisors, National Management Forum, Combat Poverty Agency, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, National Social Service Board, Irish League of Credit Unions etc. The National Co-ordinator is also a member of this group. The N.A.C. has established a number of working groups which look at the issues which affect the lives of users of the MABS service e.g. Issues relating to utilities such as electricity, phone, gas. Another sub-committee looks towards the needs of the local offices in the area of community education.
Among the support structures for staff is a National Executive which aims at promoting the highest professional standards among advisors and administrators. It facilitates a network among staff and works closely with other groups in the national structure such as management committees, the National Training Unit and the National Advisory Committee.
