Deck the halls

arts and crafts on a table to make Christmas decorations

Let’s make memories this Christmas.

Spend time with family, friends and loved ones decking the halls and decorating your home like a BOSS. We have pulled together some of our favourite DIY Christmas decoration ideas and included all you need to have to get started. Now, let’s get crafting!

Decoration ideas

You may have noticed that we’ve gone for a traditional and festive red and green for our decorations. We just love these colours for adding some Christmas cheer and warmth into any space. That’s just us, so feel free to try different colour combinations in your own home if you’d like. Perhaps black and gold, purple and white, or even pink and orange.

This year we made 5 different decorations, and we’ve listed out all that you will need to make each of them. Visit our YouTube page for short videos on how to make each of the decorations.

Note: Parents, we’d recommend preparing some of the arts and crafts materials ahead to protect little fingers from cuts from scissors and other sharp tools.

Materials List

Most, if not all the materials listed are available from your local bookshop, office supplies store, or arts and crafts shop.

Red Bird Ornament

  • Red card 160gsm, or a colour of your choice (gsm refers to the weight or feel of the paper. For reference, the paper that is used in a printer is 80gsm, so 160gsm is slightly thicker)
  • Green card 160gsm – only if you’d like to make different coloured birds
  • The Red Bird template
  • A sharp scissors
  • A pencil to draw the outline of the bird on the card, using the template.
  • Ribbon (for hanging the bird from the ceiling)
  • Decorative paper. Don’t worry if you can’t buy this. Ask your kids to draw and colour in wild designs on a white piece of paper using crayons. These will a colourful alternative.
  • Glue stick
  • Coloured glitter. We used green and red, keeping with our theme 🙂
