Mike’s and Louise’s story
Mike and Louise are a young couple with a young family. Mike lost his job just eight weeks before they were due to get married. Their life came crashing down. They were in regular contact with their lender and worked hard to reach a resolution to their mortgage arrears. However, after eight long years, it came to nothing.
Now they have hope and it looks like Mortgage to Rent could be the answer, which was made possible through Abhaile.
“Anyone out there in the same boat, talk to the people in Abhaile, you won’t regret it. For the longest time, we felt we were alone but everyone in Abhaile, they gave us hope again.”
Adam’s and Sally’s story
Adam and Sally were managing. They were making ends meet and everything was fine. Then the recession hit and all of a sudden, they were finding it difficult to pay the bills on time. The bills were growing, and they couldn’t find their footing.
That’s when they heard about Abhaile and the personal insolvency practitioner (PIP) service. Their personal insolvency practitioner listened, didn’t judge and took everything into account when helping them reach an arrangement with their lender.
They are now solvent (able to pay their bills on time). This is thanks to a personal insolvency arrangement with repayments they can manage. They are able to breathe and enjoy life again.
“The first thing the adviser did was listen. He didn’t judge, he empathised, he reviewed our financial situation to figure out a plan and he gave us hope. The relief was enormous.”
Everything was going well for Joan until she had to take a huge pay cut at work. This put huge stress and strain on her. By contacting us, she was able negotiate with her lender and change her mortgage repayments to a more manageable amount. Since then, life has been easier.
“I really can’t thank MABS enough for their amazing work, they are professional and compassionate, and they do an amazing job.”
John’s and Mary’s story
John and Mary had some bad luck in their life with ill-health, recessions and losing jobs. They fell into arrears on their mortgage, but with the help of Abhaile and MABS they got back on their feet.
“MABS brought us from near repossession and desperation to gaining a pathway towards financial stability and keeping our family home.”
Noleen thought there was no hope until she decided to ask for help.
As a single mum, with a part-time job and supporting her young son, Noleen expected that a court repossession hearing was the beginning of the end and she was going to lose her home. She struggled to understand what the lender was sending her and to get her head around the numbers. She was doing what she could, but she felt it wasn’t enough.
That has all changed and by working with a MABS Mortgage Arrears adviser through the Abhaile scheme, Noleen has a payment plan and is secure in her home again. She has hope for the future.
“One meeting and I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long, long time – hope.”
Orla’s and Dave’s story
Orla and Dave found themselves in a difficult situation financially and felt like they had nowhere to turn. After the contact MABS, they found light at the end of the tunnel and found a solution to their problem.
“After our first meeting, where our options were explained properly to us, we came out feeling hopeful”
When Tom found that work was drying up, he was not able to pay his bills. With the help of MABS, he reached an agreement with his lender and was able to breathe again.
“MABS showed complete understanding and were non-judgmental.”
